29 weeks - I felt a little foot!!!!

Tonight I gave myself a midwifery check up and it was so satisfying. I checked my fundal height (I'll edit soon to tell you technical details about that) and palpated for my fetus's position. It was so exciting and so satisfying!!

I could identify where the poles were (i.e. Head and bum) bur couldn't tell them apart for sure, and then s/he kicked me and that told me which end was the bottom! So, in more detail I was able to feel the little bum (!!!) and a foot or knee (!!!). It was so lovely. The foot was right below my right ribs and the bum was further to my right. I listened to my fetoscope and heard a strong heartbeat lower down on the right side. So, I figured out that the wee babe is vertex and in the ROA position: head down and in the right occiput anterior. That means that the fetal back is vertical, the head is downward, and the body is along the front right side of my body. The fetal spine is probably line up with the inside of the front part of my right side. cool, eh??

I've been doing a tonne of baby crafting lately. I've been particularly obsessed with making baby hats. Tonight I made my first baby toy. It's a beach ball made from stretchy baby terrycloth and stuffed with fluff.
Behold! Baby crafts!!
My first newborn snuggle sack outfit!
My first pair of baby pants!
I'm also starting to figure out my birth plans. It's harder than I expected it to be. I need
to have a few more conversations with friends about it in order to figure out who will be able to support me in labour. I can't afford an $800 doula, that's for sure.

I've also decided that I'd like to labour in water so I need to find myself a birthing pool to borrow or rent. If you are reading and know of someone in the Ottawa area who has one, please comment to let me know. I will buy a new disposable liner for it of course.

Beach ball with belly.

p.s. I am no good at formatting blog entries in Blogger. Like, why are these images so randomly placed? And how come today the text is flanking them when it usually doesn't?
I'm stumped.
